Scott C. MathenyWelcome to my blog! My name is Scott Matheny, author of What Great Leaders Do: Lessons from the Gridiron that Will Transform the Way You Lead and I'm a former NFL chaplain who is passionate about developing the next great generation of leaders! I spent eleven seasons serving as chaplain for the New York Jets. I saw it all. I saw great men accomplish great things. I saw men overcome adversity in ways that are almost indescribable. I witnessed exhilarating victories and deflating losses. None of it was lost on me. I kept mental notes all the time. I know of no other more competitive business than the National Football League. At the end of the season, there is but one winner in the world. Everyone tries, everyone prepares, everyone hopes… and ONE team is crowned champion. Most people don’t recall who finished in second place. Most people don’t care. Maybe you don’t feel that you have what it takes to lead. Maybe you are unsure about your ability to take people where they need to go. If so, I can help. You don’t have to be an NFL player or coach to lead effectively, but you can learn from these men who have led at the highest levels. I firmly believe that if you apply the principles in my book and my blog, you will automatically jump to the head of the class. People will follow you and that is what leading is all about. Please come back often!

Today was another day of home improvement…hanging window treatments! In between taking measurements, looking for the Philip’s head driver, and dropping screws endlessly into the ground-level heat vent, I heard a comment from the San Francisco-Arizona game that struck me. … Continue reading
I am saddened by the recent events in State College, PA. The alleged abuse of boys sickens me to no end. I know abuse. I was repeatedly abused sexually by a male babysitter as a child. I understand the hurt, … Continue reading
I will start by saying that I am no longer a huge Jets’ fan. I still pull for a few of the guys in the organization, but as a whole I have moved on. I guess that I am just … Continue reading
